Hi all o/

I was wondering; what are you guys using to play Minecraft on? Most will use some sort of computer, obviously. But tell me more; desktop or laptop; pc or apple? And what do you use at work, or to play other games on?

The reason I'm asking is because my old trusted pc is ready to be replaced. I assembled it around 6 years ago and it served me well. But it has started crashing on me a few to many times, despite trying to make things work smoother.
Soooo, me being picky and terrible at making choices, I was wondering what you guys are playing/working on. And because I believe most of you will have an opinion on desktop vs laptop and pc vs apple and I would love to hear it.

So please share your thoughts and opinions so I will be able to make a good decision on my next purchase.

Thanks :) o/

btw; I use pc at home and an iMac at work, so hence the doubt of choosing pc vs apple.

Working machine MacBook Pro 17" 2010, maxed RAM, I fitted an SSD, it's fast. They don't make a 17" anymore (the 2011 version had too many issues) and I need that huge screen! Against my better judgement i installed MC on it for travelling, it works well, no problems. Dual boot with Windows 8 for when I feel the craziness coming on.

A 2015 15" MBP lives in another country, but I usually lug the 17" around as I prefer it.

Without going into the details ( the post would be way too long!) I have approx 25 Macs (and a Hackintosh), going back to Quadras and the first Apple laptops. Most work, I have had Apples and Macs since 1978 or thereabouts and am a hoarder! The iMacs that are Intel CPU will happily run MC 8)

I have a small Wind Notebook, that tries to run Windoze 7, I use it for flashing radios and running digital radio modes 24/7 ( I'm a Radio Amateur).

Why Macs? Having used both Windoze and Apple for many decades, professionally and for fun, I prefer the no hassle environment of Apples.

If you want to play games get a fast Windoze desktop, with a fast CPU, mega graphics card, fastest available RAM, name brand SSD and the fastest bus speed. If you have already built one, do it again, more bang for the buck!

Updated version, mine is about 4 years old now? Cyberpower pc . Gaming computer Got it mostly because I'm a graphic designer and I knew it could handle multiple high end programs like indesign, photoshop and illustrator, ( and also games too, shh!) At work, I had a mini mac, loved it, never played any games on it tho. But i could have all the above programs going at the same time, with no drag.

It really depends on what you plan on using it for. Outside of minecraft what do you plan on using it for? If you want a gaming machine go with Windows. Laptop vs desktop really depends on you as well. Do you want to travel with it? I have minecraft on pretty every computer I own. 1 Windows laptop, 2 Linux laptops, and 1 Linux desktop.
It's all person preference really. I use Linux by choice, Windows by necessity, and I'll never touch a Mac.

On my desktop I have a Dell XPS 8910 that I got to replace my Alienware that was not very Win-10 compatible and finally bit the dust. I think the monitor is 21" with a smaller second monitor. On the desk in my "lab" off of my wood shop, I have a Dell 17R N7110 (17") laptop that I also use when traveling. Mostly play on the desktop (much faster), but sometimes take a break and play on the laptop (often just to go AFK). Since my career was in IT at a VA hospital, we only used PCs, but that is another story.

I wasnt planning on playing minecraft when I got my computer. But I have made it work! I have an Acer R11 Chromebook. I hacked it with crouton/linux to play MC. With optifine, its doing A-OK. I have to keep the graphics really low, and particles pretty much off, but being able to choose so many options with optifine means I now have FPS around 40 most of the time and this seems fine. I struggle at spawn and in the shops area. If I had the money or the skills, Id do a Mac or put together one and run the Mac OS on it. I HATE windows. So much. I love my chromebook!

PC user here. I built my own machine from name brands with a good rep. and good reviews. Took me about a month searching for good stuff, and then another week buying it all. Assembled in an afternoon and complete install with win VII (win X is not for me) and office in 3 hours.

I stick with intel, as every time I tried AMD, the computer struggled with certain programs or crashed at random times in games. The AMD was always faster, but intel more stable. Haven't used anything but intel for 10 years now, so things might have changed.
This machine is about 3 years old and a i5-4670K 3.40GHz, 16GB RAM. And I have a GForce GTX 760 running two screens. I have a 128 and a 256 GB SSD, but use the 2TB drive for all my games. Having the OS on an SSD is huge improvement, but I can't tell a difference when running games from the SSD. I have 2 monitors 27" and 22" hoooked up, and I'm saving for a third. It's just pure luxury to have the map for the server, a movie from netflix and a drawing on one screen, and the other running MC in full screen. I can run a 10GB download of a new game, MC full screen, A netflix movie, and a backup to my NAS with no interruptions of anything. My DSL 60/60 connection helps, though.

I only ever used my computers for fun and games. I did work professionally with a computer for a period, but the company provided me with a PC laptop, no choice on my part. I say build a PC. Laptops are portable, but the desktop is easier to upgrade one part at a time, so you spread out the expense.

I just did a complete rebuild on my desktop, Asus 970 Progaming/ Aura Motherboard, AMD FX-6300 Black Edition 3.5 - 4.2 MHz 6 core processor,a tower cooler for the Processor which I think looks pretty cool, 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws X series DDR3 2133 MHz RAM (can still add 16 more GB's), a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050Ti 4GB GPU, an Hitachi 2TB 3.5" SATA HD, all powered by an Apevia Beast 700w PSU. I have 2 20" monitors and a 42" LCD TV hooked up to it. I used my original case and case fans so only replaced the internals and spent $500-$600 USD for all the parts. Future plans will include an SSD to go along with the SATA. If you re able upgrading it yourself is well worth it. I don't have any problem running MInecraft or any mods for it on either one.

By now... everyone knows i'm not a Computer wiz, but i like to build things... (duh). My wife wanted a new home pc that she could use for emails, photos and a remote work computer. Although I like the look of Apple Desktops, they were way out of my price range so i decided to build my own as a project with my son and to build a good system to run MC (wink). No idea how it stacks up to everyone else's, but with 2 nice 27" Widescreen 1080p monitors it looks awesome to me.

Lastly, with all the rebates (which took a while... and the cost of the monitor..... it was all around 1250 usd)
1.5 weeks to procure the parts. 4 hours to build and another 2-3 hours to learn Windows 10 and all the software issues i was having.[because i'm a dumb ass noob]
